the scene in 301 when flint goes on a whole rant to convince the crew to drive the ship into a storm and he’s like “they took my woman from me..” makes me 🤪 he’s fucked out of his head with grief and still aware of how he has to frame his relationship with her in order to be palatable to his audience of men. there’s so many layers to that peformance from toby stephens bc flint is exactly as enraged as he seems but the things he’s saying have so little to do with what he’s feeling and his motivations. “do you want to surrender to men who fear you?” like he does not care abt that at all. he doesn’t care bc he knows he will never surrender he knows he will die in the end what he cares abt is weaponizing the crew’s own hangups abt their manhood/masculinity against them. he’s dancing the dance
